Creating Art Together Since 2005
Our art is meant to convey community, family, love; the things that give us strength and make us smile.
Our Story: I was 42 years old when I began putting my life-long ideals into my art with this “Loving Home" series. My earlier art, which I created for over 10 years, was also fun and whimsical. I work with eleven angular cartoon faces; well loved, and in perfect alignment with my inner growth. Though, as I grew - my need to bring my ideals forward expanded too; so after a couple of years of experimenting with a new look I jumped into this style of the little house with a heart. Some of the themes carried over from one style to the next, particularly painting fruits and vegetables; they just make me feel good.
In 2003, my daughter Tirza, at just three years old, entered the art world and began selling her own paintings; after spending a lot of time with me in my Flagstaff, Arizona art gallery where this "Loving Home Series" took root. Then in 2005, she offered me the idea for our first collaboration, cornering me in the front of the gallery, she said "Dad, you have to make a strawberries piece, and this is what it has to say. Strawberries are made of love and so is Mama, Dada..." On and on she went telling me the names of all the people in her life that are made of love, and she wanted listed in the text.
With the purity and passion I was seeing I offered Tirza creative room to sprout, so I asked her if she wanted to sketch out her idea with my assistance. I still remember the first moment we worked together; sitting on the couch at home, I just let her take the lead. There were a few solid ideas on the sketch pad, then she latched onto something I had going and improved on it; she wrapped up the design. How perfect it was that she started the process and then she had the idea to finish the design. We were both thrilled, and the next day I completed her idea in my hand, and today the Strawberry piece remains one of favorite pieces.
That's pretty much how we've been working together since that day; sharing ideas, one or the other of us improving on the others work, and just having fun. We relish the moments when someone sees our art for the first time, and really takes to it.
Today we have about 60 unique designs, with 25 or so being Father & Daughter collaborations. And now Tirza’s branched out, and is finishing her sketches in her own hand. You can see some of Tirza’s new pieces in the "Tirza's new work" section of this site.
Our Evolution: We’ve moved on from having two retail stores and over 30 wholesale accounts, to doing murals for hospitals, schools, and private residencies, along with writing some “Loving Home” books. (We’ll let you know when the books are available).
